Chimney Repair for Clark chimneys
Most chimneys in Clark are brick stacks from the 1950s and 1960s, usually serving a furnace or water heater and often a fireplace. They are short to medium in height on low roofs, which keeps them reachable, but sixty-plus years of freeze-thaw has cracked many original crowns and opened mortar joints near the top.
We repair chimneys throughout the township: crowns, caps, repointing, flashing, stainless steel liners, rebuilds of deteriorated upper courses, waterproofing and cleaning. Every inspection covers the flue interior as well as the exterior, with photos of what we find.
Many Clark homes have replaced their original oil or gas equipment with newer, more efficient appliances. If the new furnace or water heater still vents into the original clay flue, the flue may now be too large, and condensation can damage it from the inside.
Clark housing
Clark's housing stock is dominated by post-war ranches, split-levels, capes and modest colonials built mostly in the 1950s and 1960s, many since expanded with second-story additions, rear extensions and dormers. Roofs are generally simple gables and hips with low to moderate pitches. Brick chimneys serving a furnace and fireplace are common. Shopping centers, office buildings and light commercial properties along the main roads and near the Parkway carry flat roofs.
Weather & exposure
Clark is low and gently rolling with moderate wind exposure and a mix of mature and younger street trees. Low-pitched ranch and split-level roofs hold snow and form ice dams at the eaves in cold stretches, and nor'easters push rain sideways into flashing. Areas near the reservoir and the river branch stay damper. Summer thunderstorms bring wind gusts that lift aged shingle tabs.
Repair, repoint or rebuild in Clark
An inspection shows what the chimney needs. On most Clark chimneys that is some combination of a crown, cap, repointing at the top and a liner if appliances have been updated. Where the upper courses are loose or badly spalled, we rebuild from the roofline up. You get photos and a written scope.
If you are replacing the roof, have the chimney looked at first. Flashing and masonry repairs are simplest when the roof is open.
