Roof Replacement for Alpine homes and buildings
Replacing an asphalt shingle roof on an Alpine home is a substantial project: large surface areas, multiple roof planes, many valleys and dormers, and often several chimneys and skylights to flash around. Planning matters as much as installation, from where materials are staged on a long driveway to how the house is protected during tear-off.
On a roof this size, details make the difference. We install ice-and-water barrier at eaves, valleys and around every penetration, synthetic underlayment across the deck, and new step and counterflashing at every wall and chimney. Ventilation on large, complex roofs needs particular attention, because attics with many separate sections are easy to vent poorly.
Permits are typically required for a full replacement; check with the borough's building department, and we can advise on what is usually needed. For homes with slate, tile, cedar or metal, we can assess the existing roof and advise on options, but our specialty is shingle and flat roofing.
Alpine housing
Alpine is almost entirely single-family residential on large, wooded lots. The housing ranges from older country houses and mid-century homes to large custom houses and newer estates. Roofs tend to be large and complex, with many hips, valleys, dormers and turrets, and a significant share use premium materials such as slate, tile, cedar or standing-seam metal alongside architectural asphalt shingle. Many homes have multiple chimneys, often in brick or stone. Commercial buildings are few.
Weather & exposure
Alpine sits high on the Palisades ridge above the Hudson, and properties near the cliff take wind straight off the river during nor'easters and summer storms. Inland from the cliff, the borough is heavily wooded, so falling limbs, leaf-packed gutters and shaded, damp slopes are constant concerns. Long driveways and large lots also mean roofs are often surrounded by trees on every side, and winter freeze-thaw works on the tall chimneys these houses carry.
When replacement is the right call in Alpine
An asphalt roof in Alpine is due for replacement when the shingles are brittle or curling across most of the roof, when granule loss is heavy, or when leaks keep appearing in different places. On a large roof, we photograph every slope so you can see what we see.
Architectural asphalt shingles in heavier profiles suit many Alpine homes and are our core product. If you are considering a premium material, we can discuss the trade-offs honestly and advise on what makes sense for your house. Estimates are free.
