Roofing and chimney work in Mahwah
Mahwah is the largest municipality in Bergen County by area, filling the county's northwest corner where the Ramapo Mountains rise along the New York border. Much of the western part of the township is wooded upland and parkland, while the eastern side along Route 17 and the Ramapo River valley holds older neighborhoods, larger subdivisions from the later decades of the twentieth century, townhouse and condominium communities, and commercial and corporate buildings with flat roofs.
From our base in Cliffside Park, we serve Mahwah for asphalt shingle and flat roofing and the full range of chimney work. The township asks more of a roof than the dense boroughs to the south: more snow, more trees, steeper lots and, on many newer homes, larger and more complicated rooflines. Estimates are free, and we explain what we find with photographs.
Housing in Mahwah
Mahwah has a wide spread of housing. Older homes and small post-war houses sit near the historic center and along the river valley, while much of the township was built out from the 1960s onward with larger colonials, contemporaries and split-levels on wooded lots. Townhouse and condominium communities are a significant part of the housing, and commercial, office and light-industrial buildings with low-slope roofs line the Route 17 corridor.
Weather and exposure
The Ramapo Mountains give Mahwah more elevation and more snow than most of Bergen County, and homes on the hillsides and ridges take stronger wind in winter storms. Dense hardwood forest surrounds many lots, so falling limbs, leaf-packed gutters and shaded, slow-drying roof slopes are routine. The Ramapo River and the brooks that feed it flood low-lying areas in heavy rain, and long, cold winters bring repeated ice dams on large roofs with long eaves.
