Roofing and chimney work in Oakland
Oakland sits at the western edge of Bergen County, where the Ramapo River valley meets the Ramapo Mountains. Much of the borough's housing was built in the post-war decades, capes, split-levels, ranches and colonials, and a lot of it sits on hilly, wooded lots, with houses set into slopes, long driveways and trees close on every side. Low-lying areas along the Ramapo River face flooding in heavy storms.
From our Cliffside Park base, we serve Oakland for shingle and flat roofing and chimney work. Terrain, trees and wood heat shape most of what roofs and chimneys go through here. Estimates are free, and we explain what we find in plain terms.
Housing in Oakland
Oakland is mostly single-family. A large share of homes are post-war capes, split-levels, ranches and colonials from the 1950s through the 1970s, many on hillside or wooded lots, along with some older homes and later, larger houses. Commercial buildings with flat roofs are concentrated along the main roads.
Weather and exposure
Oakland has more elevation change than most of Bergen County, with hillsides rising toward the Ramapo Mountains. Dense hardwood cover means falling limbs, heavy leaf loads and shaded roofs that dry slowly. Higher ground sees more snow and wind in winter storms. The Ramapo River floods low areas in heavy rain, and freeze-thaw cycles are hard on chimneys and on wood near the roof edge.
