Roof Repair for River Edge homes and buildings
River Edge has a lot of Cape Cods, and many have been expanded over the years with shed dormers or second-floor additions. Those changes bring roofing challenges: dormer cheek walls and flashing, low-slope dormer roofs, and finished upper rooms with little or no attic space above them, where heat escapes straight into the roof and creates ice dams at the eaves.
On colonials, ranches and splits, the common repairs are more straightforward: wind-lifted shingles, worn pipe boots, flashing at chimneys and skylights, and valleys packed with leaves from street trees. On Kinderkamack Road and Route 4, commercial flat roofs need seam, drain and penetration repairs.
We find the actual source of the leak, repair it properly and, where a chimney is involved, handle the masonry and flashing together.
River Edge housing
River Edge is mainly single-family, with a housing stock that is largely post-war: 1940s and 1950s Cape Cods, followed by colonials, ranches and split-levels, along with some older homes and later rebuilds and additions. Most have moderate-pitch asphalt shingle roofs and a single brick chimney. Commercial buildings along Kinderkamack Road and Route 4 have flat or low-slope roofs.
Weather & exposure
Neighbourhoods closest to the Hackensack River are lower and can stay damper, with river-valley fog and humidity. Mature trees shade many streets, dropping leaves into gutters and keeping north slopes damp. Expanded Cape Cods, with their dormers and finished upper floors, are prone to ice dams and attic condensation in winter.
Repair or replace? What we tell River Edge homeowners
If a River Edge roof is leaking at a dormer, pipe or chimney and the shingles elsewhere are still flexible, repair is the sensible choice. If shingles are worn across the roof, or a low-pitch dormer keeps leaking because it was shingled below the minimum slope, we will recommend a more lasting fix, which might be a membrane on that section or a full replacement.
