Roofing and chimney work in Montgomery
Montgomery is a large township in the southern corner of Somerset County, bordering Princeton and wrapping around the small borough of Rocky Hill. Its western side climbs onto the Sourland Mountain, a long, rocky, heavily wooded ridge where homes sit on large treed lots, while its eastern side drops toward the Millstone River and the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Between the two, former farmland along Route 206 and Route 518 has been built out with residential developments, and older farmhouses and barns still stand along the original country roads.
Asset Roofing & Chimney serves all of Montgomery with roof repair, roof replacement and chimney repair, from development homes and mountain-side houses to farm outbuildings and the low-slope roofs on the township's shopping centers and office buildings. We are based in Cliffside Park in Bergen County and serve all of North New Jersey. Estimates are free, and we are licensed and insured for residential and commercial work.
Housing in Montgomery
Most of Montgomery's housing is single-family construction from the 1970s through the 2000s: large two-story colonials and contemporary homes in planned developments, many with multiple gables, skylights, attached garages and either a masonry or prefabricated fireplace, along with townhouse communities. Farmhouses and barns from the township's agricultural past remain along the older roads, and the Sourland Mountain side has larger homes on wooded acreage. Asphalt shingle is the dominant roof covering, with some slate, cedar and metal on older houses and outbuildings.
Weather and exposure
Montgomery has two distinct exposures. On the Sourland Mountain, dense forest drops limbs and debris, keeps roofs shaded and damp, and holds snow on north slopes well after it has melted elsewhere. On the open former farmland in the center and east of the township, roofs take sustained wind with little to break it. Ground near the Millstone River is lower and more humid. Winters bring regular freeze-thaw cycles, and summer thunderstorms bring downpours and occasional hail.
