Roof Repair for Roselle homes and buildings
The hipped roof is the signature shape on Roselle's older streets. A foursquare's pyramid roof with a dormer on each side has four hips, several short valleys and a chimney near the peak or along one side, and each of those details can leak once the shingles around them have aged.
We repair asphalt shingle roofs on foursquares, colonials, Dutch colonials, capes and two-families, flat and low-slope roofs on porches, additions and commercial buildings, and the flashing at chimneys, dormers and walls. We inspect the whole roof and attic where possible and show you photos of the source.
Front porches on many Roselle houses have their own hipped or low-pitched roofs tied into the wall below the second-floor windows. Those junctions and the porch roofs themselves are frequent leak points.
Roselle housing
Much of Roselle was built between about 1900 and the 1950s. American foursquares with hipped roofs and dormers, gable-front colonials, Dutch colonials and bungalows dominate the older streets, with capes and ranches from the post-war years filling other sections. Two-families and small apartment buildings appear throughout, and the commercial streets have low flat-roofed buildings.
Weather & exposure
Roselle is flat and low, with mature street trees over many blocks and moderate wind exposure. Nor'easters bring wind-driven rain, hipped roofs collect leaves along their hip lines and in dormer valleys, and north eaves form ice dams in cold stretches. Freeze-thaw cycles work on the brick chimneys that serve nearly every older home.
Repair or replace? What we tell Roselle homeowners
A repair is the right choice when the roof is sound and a detail is failing. Ask for photos of the entry point and finished work. When shingles across the roof are brittle or bald, or patches have accumulated, replacement is the better value, and we say so.
After a storm, photograph damage from the ground before cleanup and call us. We document storm damage with photos and a written assessment to support an insurance claim.
